The Senate buildings - Palazzo Madama (Ground floor)
Monumental Staircase of St. Louis de France
Originally, the massive wooden coffered ceiling was placed in the room behind the Anteroom of the Balustrade and was moved over the staircase during the works of 1931. It dates back to the 16th century.
The Medici coat of arms can be seen in the centre, dominating the surrounding decorative motifs with mermaids and tritons belonging to the theme of the battle of the marine gods. The fine gilded carvings stand out thanks to the dark background that confers more brightness to them.
