Awaiting a reply. Ten years of parliamentary questions and interpellations at the Senate: analysis of 28,000 parliamentary scrutiny reports
Parliamentary oversight is the tool through which MPs of both majority and opposition, exert their power to monitor government conduct and policies. From 28 April 2006 to 31 December 2016 - namely, from the beginning of the 15th Parliament - senators have resorted to it 28,360 times, submitting 1,271 interpellations, 7,780 oral questions and 19,309 questions requiring a written reply.
Follow-ups totalled 6,913 (about 24% of the total), with response time lasting from the 15th to the 17th Parliament. Who was the main recipient of the information requests? How many parliamentary oversight acts were followed up by each minister? And how many days did it take them? The Senate's Assembly Service has analysed the destination, follow-up, procedure duration and final outcome for each document, particularly focusing on the 10,580 documents of the current Parliament.
